National Heat Awareness Day

Every year, the last Friday of May is National Heat Awareness Day. So today, we're here to give you tips on how to beat the heat and stay safe this summer!

Due to excessive heat and humidity, you may see several kinds of advisories coming from the National Weather Service this summer, including:

  • Excessive heat outlooks

  • Excessive heat watches

  • Excessive heat warnings/advisories

If you hear any of these, it's best to take precautions and stay cool by:

  • Reducing your sugar intake

  • Avoid drinking excessive alcohol

  • Don't physically over-exert yourself

  • Find a cool place and drink lots of water.

  • Wear sunblock and hats

It's also very important to keep your air conditioning tuned up regularly so it's ready for use and doesn't break down on a hot day when you need it most.

Extra precaution is needed for babies and the elderly as their bodies cannot fluctuate to temperatures as well. In addition, don't forget about your pets! Keep them indoors and provide cold water. For outside pets, make sure to have a cool place for them to get out of the heat and provide plenty of cool water as well.

Is your HVAC system ready to keep you cool this summer? If not, call 72 Degrees Comfort Company at 515-965-7272 or email us at office@72degrees.com
