A Few Hidden Causes to Excess Dust in Your Home
Do you think your home is dustier than the typical home? Would you believe me if I told you that your HVAC system could be to blame? Let’s discuss how.
Do you turn your thermostat to “ON”?
Turning your thermostat to the “ON” setting will cause your AC’s blower to circulate the air constantly throughout your home. This helps while you are dusting because it sucks up the airborne dust particles which then get trapped in the air filter. That is, assuming you are using the correct filters and change them on a regular basis. Don’t forget to turn it back to “AUTO” when you’re finished dusting!
Can’t remember when you last changed your filter?
Filters that have a MERV (Media Efficiency Rating Value) rating of less than 8 are inefficient filters. But even highly efficient filters need to be changed on a regular basis and failing to do so, can cause a lot of damage to your entire system.
Do you have leaky ducts?
Leaky air ducts can suck in dust and dirt, then get blown all throughout your home. Gross! Have your ducts inspected or if you think you have a leak, call a professional.
With these tips, dusting doesn’t become more exciting but your hard work will not go to waste. More questions? Call 72 Degrees Comfort Company at 515-965-7272 or email us at office@72degrees.com
