Winter will be here before you know it and you're probably aware of how expensive it can be to keep your home warm when its FREEZING outside. If you're looking to cut costs, there are a number of simple things you can do to save money:
Adjust the Temperature
Setting your thermostat as low as you can to still feel comfortable, about 68 degrees, will help cut costs more than you think. When you're not home, turn it down another 5-10 degrees. Investing in a programmable thermostat can automatically do this for you.
Cover Drafty Windows
If it's not in the budget to install new windows, you can get plastic window covering kits at any hardware store. They're pretty inexpensive and are very effective at saving money if you have drafty windows.
Use Space Heaters
If you spend the majority of your time in a few rooms vs the entire house, you can turn down the thermostat and use an electric space heater. It's cheaper to heat a small room than the entire home. However, never leave a space heater unattended for long periods of time.
Dress Warmly
If it doesn't bother you, turn the thermostat down and layer up. It will save you money at the end of the month.
Routine Maintenance
We recommend that you have your HVAC system serviced twice a year, before summer and winter. During the check-up, a technician will check the entire system to make sure it's in tip-top shape.
