How Does A Heat Pump Work?
The average heat pump consists of an outdoor unit (similar to a central air conditioning system) and an indoor unit. They are used for both heating and cooling your home by transferring heat between the indoors and outdoors. Heat pumps are energy efficient because they transfer heat rather than generating it- removing the heat from the air that is inside your home and transferring it outdoors.
It's important to find an ENERGY STAR qualified heat pump because they have a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) and heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF) than standard models. That means they are about 20% percent more efficient than standard new models and 20-50% more efficient then what you may have in your home.
